Begonia Pavonina x Amphioxus Dark Form

$40.00

The "Peacock Begonia" (Begonia pavonina) and the "Butterfly Begonia" (Begonia amphioxus) are both striking, rare terrarium plants prized for their distinct foliage. A direct cross between the two results in a beautiful collector's hybrid with the dark, highly iridescent leaves of the former and the lance shape and vibrant red spots of the latter.

Leaves are typically dark green to copper, punctuated by bright red polka dots (inherited from amphioxus) and an iridescent, metallic blue or cyan glow (inherited from pavonina).

  • Humidity: Requires consistently high humidity of 70% - 80%. Enclosed glass cabinets, terrariums, or large glass cloches are strongly recommended.

  • Lighting: Keep in low to medium indirect light to maximize the iridescent blue effect. Too much bright light can cause the blue tones to fade or turn more green/red.

  • Temperature: Prefers cooler, stable temperatures (between 15°C and 25°C) and may sulk in hot, dry summer environments.

  • Watering: Use a well-draining, airy substrate (such as perlite mixed with peat or sphagnum moss). Keep the soil evenly moist but never waterlogged to prevent stem and root rot.
